The entire region is distinguished by its rich cultural and historical heritage, with castles, monasteries and villages of indigenous peoples who still proudly preserve the ancient customs and rituals characteristic of northern Albania. Meanwhile, the spiritual and cultural heritage of the north has also been appreciated on the international stage. UNESCO recently took under its protection the jubleta, the traditional clothing of northern women, handmade and known for its wavy bell shape.
Also a year ago, the famous k’jim Tropoi was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This rhythmic dance is an important element of the region’s cultural identity and is performed at special ceremonial and social events such as weddings, engagements and traditional festivals.
